Michael Eisner, founder of The Eisner Foundation, was honored today as a 2016 Influencer in Aging by Next Avenue.
For decades, Mr. Eisner’s foundation has supported organizations that promote positive experiences of aging. Since 2011, The Eisner Foundation has awarded The Eisner Prize for Intergenerational Excellence, recognizing individuals and nonprofits that unite multiple generations, especially seniors and youth, to bring about positive and lasting changes in the community. In 2015, The Eisner Foundation sharpened its focus to exclusively support intergenerational solutions in Los Angeles County, believing that these solutions provide a multiplier effect where low-income children and older adults mutually benefit. With his history of supporting positive aging causes and now as the only U.S. funder exclusively working in this space, Mr. Eisner has consistently demonstrated leadership in recognizing older adults as valuable assets to their communities.
Next Avenue is public media’s first and only digital publication dedicated to covering issues for people 50 and older. In addition to Mr. Eisner, its 2016 Influencers in Aging list includes advocates, researchers, thought leaders, innovators, writers and experts at the forefront of changing how we age and think about aging.
Several partners of The Eisner Foundation join Mr. Eisner on this year’s Influencers in Aging list, including Tim Carpenter of engAGE, John Feather of Grantmakers in Aging, Paul Irving of the Center on Aging at the Milken Institute, and June Simmons of Partners in Care. The list also includes Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, television producer/writer Norman Lear, and television journalist Lesley Stahl.
