Strengthening families… at Disneyland!

August 17, 2017

Disneyland Dad

Last Saturday, The Eisner Foundation collaborated with the GOOD+ Foundation and Project Fatherhood  at The Children’s Institute, Inc.  to send 30 dads and their children to Disneyland. These organizations work with non-custodial fathers to encourage them to be more involved in their children’s lives—a program that helps children perform better in school and motivates the fathers to seek stable employment and maintain a relationship with their children.

GOOD+ Foundation  works with a network of more than 150 social service programs nationwide to provide  services and donated goods to families in need to break the cycle of poverty. Sixty-three percent of the families they serve are headed by single mothers, making them four times as likely to live in poverty than families with two involved parents. Children also perform better in school and are more likely to meet developmental milestones when their fathers are actively engaged in their lives. Knowing this, the team at GOOD+  developed its Fatherhood Program  to provide services and opportunities for father-child engagement with strong results: fathers overwhelmingly report increased motivation to find stable employment and secure services, reduced stress, and improved relationships with their children and their mothers.

Part of their mission is to provide fathers and children with bonding opportunities—and what better place to create shared memories than at the happiest place on earth? During their day at Disneyland, the group took in the sights, met their favorite Disney characters, and rode iconic rides  like Splash Mountain, all while  strengthening family ties and a broader sense of community.

We’re proud to support the efforts of GOOD+ and their mission to bring families together to strengthen communities overall. Learn more at goodplusfoundation.org.
