Eisner Board Awards $950,000 in Grants to Implement Intergenerational Solutions throughout Los Angeles County

September 17, 2015

On September 11, The Eisner Foundation Board of Directors approved $950,000 in grants at its quarterly board meeting.  A total of seven organizations will receive grants ranging from $100,000 to $200,000 to implement or expand various intergenerational programming.

Since the launch of the new grant making focus to connect multiple generations, the Foundation has received numerous applications proposing innovative ideas and methods to bring positive changes in our communities.

From after-school tutoring programs for homeless children to organizations working with the foster care system needing more support for its senior caretakers, this quarter’s seven grantee partners will be able to focus and strengthen the intergenerational solutions identified but often not funded.

“Our foster care system relies on seniors to keep it afloat; but they need support and resources to parent a second or third generation. The Eisner Foundation’s investment will bolster our efforts to educate, empower and to advocate for the unique resources they need so the children they are raising can thrive,” said Janis Spire, CEO of Alliance for Children’s Rights.

“Bresee is incredibly grateful for Eisner Foundation’s continued support allowing us to both recruit, train, and support older mentors to tutor the over 1,000 at-risk youth we serve annually and to provide over 1,200 families in our community with free, intergenerational family activities,” said Seth Eklund, Executive Director of the Bresee Foundation.
